The Florence and Herbert Irving Book Purchase Fund was established with a significant gift designated for acquisitions, which was accompanied by an additional fund for general library support. In recognition of this generosity and of many years of support, the library’s Reading Room was named in their honor. The Irvings are among the Museum’s most generous donors, particularly in the arts of East and Southeast Asia, and several galleries in the Asian wing are named for them. Accordingly, the library has chosen to dedicate the proceeds of the Irvings’ book purchase endowment to expand our holdings in the fields of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean art. |
