How can I find illustrations or reproductions of art works?

  • Consult indexes to reproductions that are published in books. These list the included objects by artist and by title.
  • Consult books and exhibition catalogs about the artist in question.
  • Consult catalogs from the institution owning the object, if that information is known.
  • Search the Internet, but be careful. Image searches may bring up poor and confusing results.  We recommend that you track the object back to its owner, if at all possible.  Trustworthy sites will include ownership information.
