Teams & Projects

This page describes and lists names for Teams, Work Groups and Projects to be used in relevant posts. Clicking on the team/work group/project name will initiate a search for posts containing that name.  Work groups are listed below the team they belong to.  Grayed out teams at the bottom of the post are those which are defunct or whose projects have been completed.  For definitions of the terms ”team”, “work group” and “project” please see this post.

Teams:

Authorities Team — Andrea, Erika, Jennie, Joan, Meg, Min, Ross, Tammy (leader), Tavia

    This team is responsible for the formulation of authority processes/workflow and the training of cataloging staff in the formulation of authority headings according to NACO standards. (On hiatus due to library realignment)

Business Continuity Plan Group (BCP) — Ken, Daniel, Mindy, Ross, Linda, Oleg, Lisa, Dan, Karen, Angela, Nancy

The group to identify the key functions (“critical processes”) of the department and the “critical staff” who’d be responsible for dealing with them.  See this post: http://libmma.org/watsinfo/2010/08/05/bcp-group-meeting-august-3/

Cataloging Instruction Team — Andrea, Dan, John, Tammy (leader), Tavia

    This team is responsible for the instruction of copy and original catalogers in all facets of cataloging (such as MARC field coding, AACR2 practices, special formats, etc.)

Circulation — Fredy, Lisa (manager), Maria, Ren, Ronnie

    To assist patrons at Circulation Desk, maintain stacks, open mail, pack & delivers shipments, page books, create and edit patron records and provide general assistance to all library patrons.

CJK Team — Min (leader); CJK volunteers

    The CJK team oversees selection, acquisition, cataloging and processsing of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and related Asian language materials for Watson Library and the Department of Asian Art. The team offers reference services and training on Asian language resources, selects relevant electronic resources, and manages financial matters for those materials.

Conservation — Jae, Jenny, Mindy (leader), Nina, Sophia, Yukari

    This unit addresses the preservation and conservation needs of the Watson Library and Museum departments. Functions include design and maintenance of the conservation facility, conservation treatment, collection surveys, grant-writing for conservation projects, processing of library materials, educational initiatives, bookbinding and box-making services, setting standards for library binding and in-house treatments, etc. Volunteers: Stephanie Later, Andrijana Sajic, Jen Bantz, Shira Nichaman, Sandra Liu, Mary Arouni.
  • Inter-Departmental Preservation — Jae, Mindy (co-leaders).  Members include Yukari and preservation liaisons from every independent library, curatorial, and conservation departments, as well as the MMA Archive.

  • Emergency Response — Mindy and Nancy (co-leaders). Members include the conservation and circulation staff.

Our purpose is to prevent, respond to and recover from collection emergencies relating to water, fire or other potential threat to the collection. While we do not have scheduled meetings at this time, we plan to meet more regularly in the future to share information about current Museum-wide, emergency-related initiatives.

  • Library binding — Angela, John, Karen, Mindy (leader), Tavia;  Mark Santangelo meets with us on occasion, representing the needs of departmental libraries.

We meet regularly in person and by email to review quality control, changes in workflow, standards, and budgetary issues.

Costume Institute — Daniel, Erika, Jennie, John, Julie, Tavia (leader)

    Help Julie manage CI Library.

Departmental Libraries Team — Dan, Daniel, David, Jae (leader), Lisa, Mindy, Tavia

    The purpose is to communicate about services to departmental libraries and coordinate improvements, outreach, and workflow amongst those of us most directly involved with departmental library liaisons.

Digitization Team — Dan, Oleg, and Robyn (all project managers — email us about digitization).

    Identify and meet needs for digitization services; direct the initiative to digitize and provide access to research materials from the libraries and around the Museum.

Finance –  Angela, Daniel,  Ross, Karen (chair)

    Financial concerns are discussed, and Watson’s income and expenditures for materials and other kinds of products and services are tracked. Meetings are held monthly, with more frequent meetings at the end of the fiscal year.

Interlibrary Loan/ILL — Gwen, Joan, Linda, Robyn (leader); work-study/intern/volunteer

Kronos Team — Dan, Holly, John, Nancy (leader), Robyn (timekeepers); Daniel, Ken, Linda, Ross (approvers). (email the Kronos Team)

    Responsible for electronic timesheets.  Replaces ADI Team as of 4/19/09.

New Auction Sales Catalog Project (NASCaP) Andrea, Dan, Erika (leader), volunteers, Joan, John, Tammy, Tavia, Vika

    Responsible for cataloging current print + digital auction catalogs

Ordering Team — Angela, Erika (leader), Gwen, Joan, Karen, Ross.  [Jennie, Min (CJK ordering)](email Ordering Team )

    Members of the Ordering Team place orders and claims for monographs, serials and e-resources; work closely with the Finance Team, and leverage current Acquisitions experience in ordering from vendors, etc.

Processing Team — Andrea, Joan J., John, Julie, Kate, Talitha, Tavia, Tina; volunteers/work-studies (email Processing Team)

    The Processing Team is responsible for labeling, bindery preparation, proofing returning binding, Offsite processing, and other assorted tasks for both monographs and serials.

Periodicals Room Maintenance (PRoM) Team — John, Kate, Joan; (email PRoM Team)

    The PRoM Team is responsible for the Periodicals Room and the unbound periodicals in it. As such, it will search for and claim late issues and prepare periodicals for processing by the Bindery Team. In general, questions about print periodicals can be addressed to this team.

Receiving Team – Angela (leader), Erika, Karen, Kate, Tavia (email Receiving Team )

The purpose of the Receiving Team is to examine and implement procedures related to the intake of monographs and periodicals to the Watson Library.

  • Mailroom Team – Angela, Joan, John, Karen, Tavia (email Mailroom Team) Responsible for opening and distributing for receiving all book and periodical shipments.

Reference Team — Dan, Daniel, Deborah, Ken, Linda (leader), Lisa, Min, Oleg, Renée, Robyn, Ross, Tammy, Vika, Meg (email the Reference Team)

    Provides regularly scheduled reference service to library clientele.

Provides regularly scheduled assistance to library patrons at the Registration Desk (registers new users, swipes Reader’s Cards to determine currency, assures that readers check coats and bags before entering the library)

  • Nolen Library team — Dan, Daniel, Gwen, Karen, Kate, Laura, Leah, Linda (leader), Lisa H, Meg, Naomi, Oleg, Renée, Robyn, Tammy, Nancy, Rodman, Vika (email Nolen team)

Responsible for managing the Nolen Library’s transition from operating under the Education Department to being a part of the Museum Libraries system.

Retrieves object information from CC files in response to patron requests; sends scanned object information to patrons.

Selectors– Meg, Michael, Ross (chair), Tammy, Laura, Erika, Leah, Julie, Tina, Dan, Naomi, Vika, Holly, Jennie, Mark, Linda, Ken, Daniel, Kate, Deborah, Min (email Selectors)

Collection development for Watson is discussed to ensure consistency across selectors.

This team evaluates subscription electronic resources and makes recommendations to the Chief Librarian about purchases and cancellations. The team is responsible for establishing trials to resources and negotiating prices with vendors.

Security — Lisa, Nancy

    The Security Committee’s task is to review and manage large security projects (e.g., installation of panic bars, gates, and so on) and also review smaller issues, like requests for restricted keys.


Serials Steering Committee

    To make and record decisions on serials cataloging, processing, etc.

Systems — Dan, John, Kate, Oleg (leader), Robyn

    To support library systems and software.

The WebOPAC Display and WebOPAC Functionality teams have merged into one OPAC team. Evaluates and adjusts the way information is conveyed and displayed in WATSONLINE, to enhance searching success by increasing transparency, eliminating jargon and ambiguity. To review aspects of WATSONLINE functionality and implement changes when appropriate.

To manage and develop WatsINFO.

Projects:

Contemporary Catalogs Team (CCT) — Deborah, Elizabeth Lizan, Emma Guest, Holly, Nancy, Min, Renée, Robyn, Vika (email CCT)

Digital Bookplates — Angela, Holly (leader), Oleg

    Purpose is to design and construct a page on the library portal to recognize the many donors to the library by highlighting on our website the books that have been purchased with their donations.

eBooks — Daniel, Deborah, Erika (leader), Kate, Oleg, Robyn, Ross

Inventory Team — Daniel, Erika, John, Lisa, Rodman

    The charge of this team is to carry out the Ernst & Young audit recommendation to inventory all Museum library collections.

Library Portal — Dan, Deborah, Erika, Kate, John (chair), Lisa, Linda, Oleg, Renee (see this post)

    To manage and develop the Library Portal.

Outstanding Service Initiative — Dan, Daniel, John, Linda, Lisa (chair), Oleg

    Formed to develop strategies and standards to provide outstanding service to all Watson Library patrons. This group will lead brainstorming sessions, prioritize initiatives and evaluate current practices.

RDA– Andrea (leader), Dan, Daniel, Meg, Oleg, Tammy

    This team was created to follow the upcoming release of RDA and evaluate it for possible implementation in Watson.

Single-record cleanup — Dan (leader), Daniel, Erika, Kate, John, Tammy, Vika

    To investigate, merge and clean up bibliographic records representing works in various formats.  The ultimate goal of this team is to ensure that the print, electronic, and microform holdings of a particular work coexist on the same bibliographic record.

Vertical Files — Linda (Team Leader), Miriam; volunteers

    Adds new ephemeral material to MMA files and maintains Artist Files and MMA files.

Defunct and/or completed teams and projects:

ADI — Nancy M (leader), Holly and Robyn. Approvers are Ken S, Daniel, Linda, and Evalyn. THIS TEAM HAS BEEN RENAMED THE KRONOS TEAM as of April 19, 2009 (see below).

The ADI Team edits the staff’s electronic timesheets. Approvers sign off on completed timesheets.

ArtSTOR / OIV Training – Dan, Deborah (Chair), Erika, Jennie, John, Lisa, Renée.

This team is responsible for training Museum staff on the use of ARTstor and OIV. The team monitors the ARTstor-OIVTraining@metmuseum.org mailbox which receives requests for training.

Auction Sale Catalog Project (ASCaP) — Dan, Erika (leader), John, Karen, Tavia (email ASCaP team)

Responsible for managing ASCaP.

Departmental Liaisons from Watson – Lisa: Medieval, Deborah: DRAP, Linda (leader): American, Dan: Paintings Conservation, Tammy: Greek and Roman, Renee: NCMC

Provide department-focused, personalized information about library tools and services through email alerts and updates, and instruction in use of relevant library materials.

E-Resources Instruction Team (ERIT) – Angela, Dan, Deborah (Chair), Erika, Jennie, Joan, John, Linda, Lisa, Min, Naomi, Renée, Robyn, Vika (email ERIT team)

ERIT is responsible for the instruction and marketing of all manner of online resources, including subscription, free, traditional and new “cutting-edge” resources. Team members develop a series of classes on different online topics and resources that can be offered to library patrons.

ERIT On Call– Dan Lipcan, Deborah Vincelli, Jennie Pu, Linda Seckelson, Lisa Harms, Min Xu, Renée Watson, (email ERIT On Call)

Federated Search – (ResearchPro, MasterKey, Metafind, WebFeat) — Dan, Deborah, Oleg (chair), Renée

To investigate and implement a federated search solution.

Fine Bindings Project Team – Dan (leader), Daniel, Evalyn, Mindy, Yukari.

A temporary team formed to deal with the Jayne Wrightsman gift of fine bindings.

Library Website Advisory Group – Ross (chair), Dan, Oleg, Naomi, Jennie, Deborah

To advise the Chief Librarian in his role as member of the Advisory Committee for the Website Relaunch Project (2009-10). The group will “focus on the needs of researchers seeking information of all types, and to imagine ways a new website can address and serve those needs.”

Live Sound System Project — John, Ken S, Oleg (leader),

Installation of a voice/sound system in the Reading Room

Management Group — Ken, Daniel, Linda, Mindy, Deborah, Evalyn, Tavia, Lisa, Holly, Nancy M.

THIS TEAM IS EXTINCT as of mid-2008. The Management Group presently consists of all unit heads and selected managers: KS, DAS, LS, MD, DV, ERS, TF, LH, HP, and NBM. It has evolved over the years, but its overriding function has been to provide a venue for discussion of management-level issues involving several or all areas of the library. As part of the present re-thinking of management structure overall, it will be reconstituted as the Managers’ Team. The position of Chair rotated through the group meeting by meeting; there has been no named leader.

MetStory (ephemera digitization) — Dan, Deborah, Don, John, Koven, Oleg, Renee, Robyn (chair)

The goal is to digitize the Library’s “Metropolitan Museum of Art historical Clippings and Ephemera files” as well as two major collections of Scrapbooks. The committee will also develop a web platform that will make this collection accessible online to Museum staff and the public.

Millennium team — Angela (chair), Daniel, Dan, Evalyn, Holly, Lisa, Laura, Oleg, Tavia, Vika (see this manual page)

OCLC transition (disbanded) — Daniel, Dan (chair), Oleg, Tammy

Formed to implement the transition to OCLC participation; our work is complete.

Offsite Selection team – Ross, Tavia, Lisa, Erika, Tina, John, Jennie, Andrea, Linda, Evalyn (team leader), Deborah, Karen, Min

Responsible for selecting books, periodicals and auctions for sending to offsite storage.  The team members responsibilities vary: CJK selection (Min and Jennie); LC selection (Erika, …); MMA selection (…); new books (…)

Open House — Deborah (co-chair), Lisa (co-chair)

Formed to plan and organize open house presentations for library patrons on a monthly basis. Other Watson staff are involved based on the content of the presentation.

Periodicals Room Vertical File Team (disbanded, tasks completed) — Dan, Erika, John

Returns Team (dissolved Aug. 2009 — see post) — Angela (Chair), Ross, Erika, Holly, Karen

Duplicate books that could possibly be returned to vendors are discussed. Meets every two weeks.

Serials Unit Reorganization Force (SURF) (dissolved March 2009) — Dan, John, Erika. (see this post)

Formed to manage the transition period after the dissolution of the Serials Unit; we have fulfilled our primary purposes. Remaining duties have been farmed out to project-based teams.

Space Planning – Daniel, Evalyn (leader), Ken, Linda, Lisa (see this post)

    This team was created to plan and prioritize strategies for both long- and short-term space planning projects, including offsite storage.

Technical Services — Dan, Daniel (chair), David, Evalyn, Holly, John, Lisa, Linda,  Mindy, Tavia

Coordinate and prioritize technical service activities; formulate policies.

Technology Development (defunct)

User Survey — Dan, John, Linda, Lisa (chair), Oleg, Robyn

To develop, distribute and analyze surveys for library patrons, both staff and visitors.

Volunteer Task Force — Chair: Holly; Miriam, Tavia

The goal of the group is to brainstorm ideas and/or concerns for further improving the supervision of volunteers. For example, issues have been scheduling, promptness and how to handle a long standing volunteer whose work quality requires frequent refresher training sessions. A highlight of this group was a successful meeting with former Volunteer Chair, Susan Eddy, and Supervisors of volunteers in Watson, where we shared our concerns and gained helpful tips from Susan. This team has not met or discussed issues since April 2007.
